Scholarship Program is Seeking Applicants

Penns Grove, New Jersey - The PRAC 4th Annual Scholarship Program, a program that supports high school seniors of Hispanic descent, who are planning to enter into a two or four year college or university, is seeking applications. The program provides financial support to two graduates, one each from Salem County and Cape May County, in the amount of $500.00.

"We look forward to assisting today's Hispanic youth in their quest for higher education and helping them to achieve future professional goals. Since the inception of our high school scholarship program in 2007 we have provided four scholarships for a total of $2,000.00. We are able to provide these scholarships through the support of our sponsors and our annual fundraisers" said David Rodriguez, Executive Director of PRAC. "It is heartwarming when past recipients and their families return to PRAC to share their college successes."

The Puerto Rican Action Committee of Southern New Jersey is a private, non-profit agency that has been servicing the Hispanic and low-income residents of Southern New Jersey since 1971. Our services include, but are not limited to, case management, transportation, translation, information and referral, employment services for adults and youth, cultural activities, child passenger safety, emergency food, utility assistance, rental assistance, and outreach on Breast Cancer and Senior Services through a collaboration with the Department on Aging from Salem and Cape May Counties.

Dear Student

The Puerto Rican Action Committee of Southern New Jersey (PRAC) is seeking applicants for its fourth annual $500.00 scholarship. Two scholarships will be awarded, one to a resident of Salem County and one to a resident of Cape May County. Applicants must be of Hispanic descent and be attending college in the fall of 2010.

In order to be considered for this scholarship you must complete and/or submit the following:

  • "A 500 word essay "Given your academic performance, what is your career aspiration and how will you use it to benefit the Hispanic community".
  • Letter of recommendation from a member of the community of which you are involved.
  • Letter of recommendation from your Academic Advisor or one of your current teachers.
  • Provide acceptance/enrollment letter to higher two or four year educational institution.

All completed information must be returned to the Puerto Rican Action Committee of Southern New Jersey administrative office no later than April 30, 2010. All applicants will be notified of the Board's decision in writing no later than May 31, 2010.
